'So' y 'such'

- Con adjetivos, usamos sólo "so":

The backpack was so expensive that we didn't buy it. La mochila era tan cara que no la compramos.

Why are you so smug? ¿Por qué eres tan engreído?

- Si vamos a hablar de algo en concreto (un nombre, aunque venga con un adjetivo) usamos "such":

It was such a beautiful day that we decided to go cross-country skiing. Era un día tan bonito que decidimos hacer esquí de fondo.

It was such a dark night that we needed a flashlight. Era una noche tan oscura que necesitábamos una linterna.

- ATENCIÓN con la utilización de "a/an", ya que sólo se usa cuando se trata de un nombre singular y contable:

He has such a big head that he can't find a hat. Tiene una cabeza tan grande que no encuentra un gorro.

The weather was so bad we didn't leave the hotel. ("weather" es nombre no contable) Hacía tan malo que no salimos del hotel.

They made such bad cars that they went out of business. ("cars" nombre contable plural) Fabricaban coches tan malos que tuvieron que cerrar.

- Para decir "tanto" y "tantos" usamos "so much" y "so many":

Don't give me so much. No me pongas tanto.
