El verbo 'take' puede emplearse para hablar del tiempo que conlleva realizar una acción.

Para preguntar en inglés por una distancia se emplea la pregunta 'how far is it?' y no 'how many kilometres are there?', que sería la traducción literal del castellano. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que, mientras en las formas negativa e interrogativa se dice 'far', en las frases afirmativas se dice it?s a long way'':
* How far is it to the candy shop?
* It's not far to the shop.
* It's a long way to the bar.
- Dentro de este contexto, en inglés se emplea con frecuencia el verbo 'take', lo que resulta una estructura rara para los españoles. La construcción equivale a 'cuánto tiempo se tarda en...'.
La frase se construye con 'it' + algún tiempo verbal de 'to take' + objeto (John, me, etc.):
* How long does it take you to come here?
* It takes me 2 hours to come here.
* It is taking us a long time.
- Cuando hablamos de la duración de algo, en inglés no empleamos el verbo 'to take' sino el verbo to last- durar:
* Class lasts one hour.
* The film lasted 3 hours.

| 9. Se tarda 2 horas y media en ir a Sevilla en AVE. | 9. It takes two-and-a-half hours to go to Seville by AVE. |
| 10. Un partido de fútbol dura 90 minutos | 10. A football match lasts 90 minutes. |
| 11. Un paquete de tabaco me dura 2 días | 11. A pack of cigarettes lasts me 2 days. |
| 12. No se tarda mucho en aprender a cocinar bien. | 12. It doesn't take long to learn how to cook well. |
| 13. Durará unos 10 días. | 13. It will last about 10 days. |
| 14. ¿A qué distancia está el estadio? | 14. How far is it to the stadium? |
| 15. ¿Cuánto se tarda en hacer una paella? | 15. How long does it take to make a paella? |

| 25. ¿Cuánto tiempo tardaré si voy en bici? | 25. How long will it take me if I go by bike? |
